Black Friday Celebrates The 7 Deadly Sins, We’re All Going To Hell

seven deadly sins Black Friday Celebrates The 7 Deadly Sins, Were All Going To Hell

The 7 Deadly Sins and Green Room go hand in hand. At some point in the past year, we’ve committed every deadly sin at least once. We’re so cool with sinning at Green Room that we even booked a rapper named SIN….twice (did I at least get a chuckle from that one?). In case you’re far removed from your Catholic school education, the deadly sins are as follows: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride.

The artists showcasing their sin-themed art tonight are:

Bruce Levins
Paul Caprio
Valyn Calhoun
Andrew Ackerman
Justin “INVI” Vilonna
Philip Carlucci
Ellusionz
Jacques de Beaufort (visuals on the projector)

In addition to the incredible artwork and the usual shenanigans by resident DJs LinderSMASH and Kaos, we’re welcoming back guest DJ KC Killjoy of Cyanide Regime. 80s, new wave, post-punk, indie, electro, industrial, you know the drill. No cover, doors at 10pm, BOGO drinks until midnight.

Our 5 Favorite Nine Inch Nail Songs, Black Friday Pays Tribute

In preparation for tomorrow night’s Black Friday: Nine Inch Nails Tribute with LAVOLA and The Craven, we’ve been blasting our top NIN tunes in the office all day. Let me tell you, it’s incredibly distracting to listen to Trent Reznor’s nightmarishly soothing voice and try to write press releases at the same time (“May 26th at Green Room we have I want to f**k you like an animal great performance by….” ).

I went around the office today to ask my co-workers what their favorite NIN track was. This was their responses…..

Video: Black Friday’s Star Wars Party Footage

While everyone was busy brandishing their fake light sabers, crowding the dance floor, and showing off their movie-grade Star Wars costumes, Nick Sears was focused on getting quality video footage to chronicle what was expected and proved to be one of Green Room’s best parties of the year. Usually known for his stellar photography (he’s showcased his work more than a handful of times at GR), Nick was able to get all kinds of different angles of the night  and mesh them together with a dark dubstep track to create one helluva montage that would make George Lucas giddy. Enjoy…..

We Could Just Tell You, But It’s More Fun As A Star Wars Opening Crawl

This Friday night, Green Room unleashes it’s first annual May The Fourth Party, an over-the-top event that celebrates the Star Wars movie series. As usual, the Green Room creative squad has stuffed the night with tons of eye and ear morsels. Rather than just writing all the details in a boring, long-winded paragraph, I thought it’d be WAY more to fun to hash out all the juicy details in the form of a good ol’ Star Wars opening crawl. Hit play! (for those of you who are no fun and enjoy reading in its mundane traditional form, look for the transcript below the video)

Video transcript:

In the galaxy of South Florida, on the most remote section of the planet of downtown Fort Lauderdale, in a  province known as Green Room, lies a venue that showcases some of the galaxy’s most creative humans, droids, and creatures. A rogue place not controlled by anyone, let alone The Federation. Where the dark side and the light side can hang out together, and enjoy a PBR + a shot of jack ($7). Where the only rule is that you must be 21+ and NOT Jar Jar Binks or an eff’n Trekkie.

On May the 4th, the province of Green Room will be overtaken by 14 different local artists, skin suspension light saber battles, a performance by the 3000 Brigade, a costume contest, photobooth, and so much more! Jedi LinderSMASH and Darth Kaos will be spinning 80s, new wave, indie, and industrial inside the ship. That Droid Sam will be guest DJing on the hull. Only 5 credits to get in (or $5). Ship doors open at 10pm. 2 for 1′s before midnight.

May the 4th be with you!

$5 cover, doors at 10pm, 2-4-1′s before 12.

Skin Mechanic Suspension at Black Friday

Suspension Skin Mechanic Suspension at Black FridayFans of gigantic steel hooks and St. Patty’s day debauchery rejoice! Green Room is excited to bring back the painfully surreal antics of the Skin Mechanic Suspension group. And If their previous showcase at Green Room is any indication, patrons can expect tons of human in-air hook suspension, hopefully including (fingers crossed) the infamous “human pinata,” in which the crowd took turns swinging a bat at a man hooked and swinging in mid air (self explanatory, i know, but just in case you were wondering how literal of an interpretation to take).

The Skin Mechanics literally bleed and scar for your entertainment, so it stands to reason that such passion (and pain) should be showcased on an evening as momentous as this. On addition to the entertainment, Guest DJ Lady Anime and DJ favorites Linder Smash and Chaos will be maintaining the St. Patty’s day theme of the night alive and well.

DJ Essential6 With An Essential New Wave Mix

Nelson Peraza, better known as DJ Essential6, has become a monthly fixture at Green Room on select Friday nights. His exceptional DJ sets that dabble in new wave and electro have become crowd pleasers and we’re more than happy to welcome him to our motley Green Room family.

As many of our readers already know, Soundcloud is a wonderful site that lets music lovers follow their favorite DJs as they post their new remixes and songs. Recently, Green Room created an account (follow us to stream quality local music) and like any good music venue, we follow our own people. We found this gem of a mix on DJ Essential6′s highly active account– an 80+ minute new wave extravaganza. Stream, download, and enjoy.

VNV Nation Guarantees Appearance At Tonight’s Black Friday

VNV Nation VNV Nation Guarantees Appearance At Tonights Black FridayEarly this morning, New Times Broward-Palm Beach posted their article on tonight’s VNV Nation show at Culture Room. Near the bottom of the post, Ronan Harris talks about how he loves socializing with fans, enjoys criticism, enjoys buying beers for his detractors, AND most importantly, how he guarantees that the band will show up tonight at Black Friday’s David Bowie Tribute. Here were Ronan’s exact words….

“They’ll have to put up a barricade to stop us from coming”

I know we’ve been touting ourselves as the after party ever since tonight’s party went live on the internet, but you never ACTUALLY know if the performer will show up. That is, unless the words come directly out of the artist’s mouth. It’s doubly cool that this influential electronic group is willing to chat it up with its fans. In a world of R Kelly VIP parties (too soon?) and ungrateful talk show hosts, it’s refreshing to see a down-to-earth band that wants to interact with its supporters, face to face.

Oh yeah, and if that wasn’t incentive enough, we have 2 bands with multiple singers covering one of the all time greatest musicians David Bowie.
